POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Officer is a senior operational role responsible for planning, designing, and implementing Mondiant Initiative’s programs in Rwanda while supporting fundraising and organizational growth.

This role requires a strategic and execution-oriented professional who can translate vision into action, manage complex programs, contribute to fundraising efforts, and operate effectively in a high-pressure, mission-driven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, design, and implement education and leadership programs in Rwanda
    • Oversee day-to-day program operations, timelines, and deliverables
    • Contribute to organizational strategy and program expansion initiatives
    • Support fundraising efforts through grant proposal writing, donor reports, and concept notes
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on fundraising plans and donor engagement
    • Build and manage relationships with universities, partners, donors, and community stakeholders
    • Track program performance, outcomes, and impact metrics
    • Maintain accurate records using nonprofit CRM and data management systems
    • Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities
    • Identify opportunities to improve, scale, or strengthen existing programs

FUNDRAISING & STRATEGIC CONTRIBUTION

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading fundraising initiatives
    • Ability to develop program proposals aligned with donor priorities
    • Experience preparing budgets, narratives, and reports for grants
    • Contribution to short- and long-term fundraising and growth plans
    • Support diversification of funding sources and partnerships

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, international development, public administration, or a related field
    • Proven experience in nonprofit program management or coordination
    • Demonstrated experience in fundraising or grant proposal writing
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Experience using nonprofit CRM systems or databases
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience designing and scaling education or youth development programs
    • Familiarity with donor-funded programs and compliance requirements
    • Experience working with refugee or underserved communities
    • Knowledge of Rwanda’s education, nonprofit, or development sector
    • Fluency in English; French and/or Kinyarwanda is an asset

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is based in Kigali, Rwanda, and may involve travel within the country or region.

The Program Officer must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving organization that requires adaptability, resilience, and initiative.
