To strengthen academic excellence and institutional growth, ISR-CBC seeks a dynamic, experienced and results-oriented professional to serve as School Principal for SOS Kigali Primary School, Byumba Primary School & Gikongoro Primary School

Job Purpose

The School Principal is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall management of the school to ensure the delivery of high-quality education in accordance with Rwanda's Competence-Based Curriculum and the school's vision and values.

The School Principal will lead academic excellence, staff performance, student welfare, co-curricular development, financial sustainability and administrative effectiveness while ensuring that English remains the primary language of instruction and communication throughout the school. The role also requires driving school growth through improved enrolment, operational efficiency, stakeholder engagement and sound financial management. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership and Quality Assurance

  • Lead implementation of the national curriculum and school academic programs.
  • Ensure effective teaching and learning across all classes.
  • Monitor learner performance and implement interventions to improve academic outcomes.
  • Conduct classroom observations, instructional coaching and teacher support.
  • Promote learner-centered and competency-based teaching methodologies.
  • Ensure the school achieves or exceeds annual academic performance targets. 

2. English Language Excellence

  • Ensure English is consistently used as the language of instruction and communication throughout the school.
  • Strengthen teachers' English language proficiency and instructional effectiveness.
  • Promote programs that improve learners' speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.
  • Coordinate staff development initiatives to enhance English language competencies.

3. Staff Management and Professional Development

  • Lead, supervise, mentor and evaluate teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and promote continuous professional development.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, professionalism and staff wellbeing.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and professional standards.

4. Student Welfare and School Culture

  • Promote a safe, inclusive and child-friendly learning environment.
  • Ensure implementation of child safeguarding and protection policies.
  • Monitor learner attendance, discipline, behavior and wellbeing.
  • Promote positive values, leadership and responsible citizenship.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians.

5. Co-Curricular Activities

  • Promote sports, arts, music, clubs and other enrichment programs.
  • Encourage broad learner participation in co-curricular activities.
  • Organize inter-school competitions and talent development initiatives.

6. Financial Management and Sustainability

  • Prepare and implement the school's operational and financial plans.
  • Oversee school revenue generation, expenditure management and fee collection.
  • Monitor budget performance and promote cost efficiency.
  • Ensure timely financial reporting and accountability.

7. School Growth and Profitability

  • Lead initiatives to increase learner enrolment and retention.
  • Develop strategies to achieve annual revenue and profitability targets.
  • Promote efficient utilization of school facilities and resources.
  • Drive operational excellence while maintaining educational quality.

8. Parent and Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with parents, guardians and community stakeholders.
  • Organize regular parent engagement meetings.
  • Promote the school's image through marketing and outreach initiatives.

9. Compliance, Governance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education policies, NESA requirements and other statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections and audits.
  • Maintain accurate school records and reports.
  • Ensure implementation of health, safety and safeguarding standards.

10. Strategic Leadership and School Development

  • Develop and implement the school's annual strategic and operational plans.
  • Lead innovation and continuous school improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor institutional performance indicators.
  • Provide regular reports to the management.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, integrity, accountability and continuous learning.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Applicants should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, Educational Management, School Leadership or a related field.
  • A master’s degree in educational leadership, Educational Management, School Administration or a related field will be an added advantage.

Experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in school leadership or management.
  • Proven experience managing a Primary School and/or Kindergarten.
  • Demonstrated success in improving academic performance and school operations.
